SCD-14 Autumn 1903 results and news

"And the show goes on"

After series of delays, we can continue. I had everything together already yesterday, but real life kept me from adjudicating (if you want to know what was more important than Diplomacy, well, I proposed to my girlfriend). Anyhow, here are the results now. Lots of action in the Balkans, where five centers change ownership. Italy takes Vienna, but loses Trieste while Turkey takes Bulgaria and Greece but loses Constantinople. Austria-Hungary is the other participant in both trades. English forces march into Moscow, ending thus the reign of Czar in Russia. Goodbye, Czar Phil! England loses, however, Belgium to France which balances the gains in Russia.

Next deadline, for Winter 1903 builds, is 9.5.2001 15:00 GMT.

Press

Germany

A moment of silence will be observed across the German nation in respect for the brave fight mounted by Tsar Phil of Russia. No game could ever be graced with the participation of a more valiant competitor. While Germany and Russia obviously did not always see eye to eye in this game, there can be no question that SCD-14 will be so much the poorer for losing such a worthy Diplomat and a sterling communicator. Thank you Phil. No one deserves the kind of rotten luck you had this time out.

Grey matter

The following is part of an overheard conversation between two players of SCD-14.

Person 1: Hey, how long did Greg say he's going to be away?
Person 2: Oh, I dunno, 10 days or so...
Person 1: You don't suppose he's going to do it again, do you? That would delay the Game!
Person 2: NO!
Person 1: Yes! If he's taken some time off once, he might go ahead and do so again!
(Extreme silence, while thinking about the future)
Person 2: He's not leaving us any alternatives then! Let's get him eliminated as soon as possible. The rest of the players will simply adore us!
Person 1: You're right! They'll applause!
Person 2: They'll be ecstatic!
Person 1: They'll be thrilled! Let's start off this very season!
(Intense silence, while looking at their units and thinking about the future)
Person 1: You don't suppose the other players will notice that in the process of eliminating the delayer, we'll top the board?
Person 2: Don't worry; we'll simply help them concentrate on the dangerous situation in the Balkans...
