This page in Finnish - Tämä sivu suomeksi: Kuminauhapallo Miettinen
Miettinen is a rubberband ball. I've been collecting the rubberbands for few years now; Miettinen has followed me through three homes. I think I started it in 1999. Most of the rubberbands in Miettinen are from my workplaces. I'm proud to say that not a single rubberband has been bought (buying rubberbands to make the ball grow is very impolite). Not to mention hiding table tennis balls or something non-rubbery stuff in the ball.
Making a ball like this isn't difficult: you start by rolling few rubberbands into a small lump, around which you then start wrapping rubberbands. It gets easier when the ball grows larger.
Diameter: 8.5 cm (~ 3.3")
Circumference: 26.8 cm (~ 10.6")
Volume: 333.0 cm³
Weight: 230 g
Rubber bands: ab. 230
Density: 0.70 g/cm³ (density of rubber is 0.92-0.96 g/cm³,
that means about one quarter of Miettinen is air)
Everyone who sends in any rubberbands in any quantity gets her or his name mentioned on this page! If you want to support Miettinen by donating rubberbands, I'll tell you my postal address by e-mail. Send e-mail to miettinen@melankolia.net.
Names of the people are links to pictures of their donations.
22.4.2003: minpin82 donated about 20 rubber bands.
Megaball is the best ball of them all and the reason why Miettinen exists.
